The Indian SUV market is set to witness another major entrant as Chinese automaker Chery prepares to introduce its Tiggo 8 SUV. Recently patented in India, the vehicle is positioned as a direct competitor to Mahindra’s popular XUV700, promising premium features, spacious interiors, and advanced safety technology.
The Chery Tiggo 8 stands out with a bold design that includes an octagonal grille, sleek LED headlamps with integrated DRLs, stylish 19-inch alloy wheels, a sloping roofline, and connected LED tail lamps. Measuring 4,696mm in length, 1,860mm in width, and 1,745mm in height, with a 2,710mm wheelbase, the SUV offers generous cabin space. While globally sold as a 5-seater, the Indian version could include a third row to meet demand for 7-seater family SUVs.
Inside, the Tiggo 8 is loaded with premium features aimed at enhancing comfort and convenience. It is expected to feature a massive 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 540-degree camera system, a 12-speaker premium audio unit, multi-colour ambient lighting, wireless charging, a built-in dashcam, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). For safety, the SUV boasts nine airbags and has already achieved a four-star Euro NCAP crash test rating.
Under the hood, the Tiggo 8 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine delivering 242 bhp and 390 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It will also offer an all-wheel-drive option, giving it strong credentials for both urban drives and off-road adventures.
Although Chery has not officially confirmed its India launch date, industry reports suggest the SUV could debut as early as next year. With an estimated price between ₹30 lakh and ₹35 lakh, the Tiggo 8 will directly challenge established players like the Mahindra XUV700, MG Hector Plus, Hyundai Alcazar, and Tata Safari.
If launched successfully, the Chery Tiggo 8 could intensify competition in India’s mid-size SUV market, offering buyers a blend of luxury, space, and performance at a competitive price point.
