Tesla has delivered 60 units of its Model Y electric SUV in India during September 2025, marking its first month of deliveries after launching the vehicle in July. The company has received more than 600 bookings since launch, though current delivery figures remain modest.
The Model Y is available in two trims: Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and Long Range RWD, offering ranges of about 500 km and 622 km respectively (WLTP). So far, Tesla has commenced deliveries only for the basic RWD version; the Long Range variant is yet to reach buyers.
Priced from ₹59.89 lakh (ex-showroom), the Model Y is entering a competitive field. In September, rival luxury and electric vehicle makers recorded higher deliveries: BMW sold 307 EVs, Mercedes-Benz 95, and Volvo 22 units in India over the same period.
Although 60 deliveries is a relatively small number, Tesla had initially aimed to exhaust its annual import quota of 2,500 units. Given early demand, the company is reportedly trimming expectations and targeting a revised delivery range of 350 to 500 units for the year.
This cautious approach could help Tesla manage inventory, regulatory caps, and incremental scaling in the Indian market.
