Hyundai Gears Up for India’s EV Revolution with New Affordable Electric SUVs

Hyundai Motor India is preparing for a major leap in the electric vehicle (EV) market with plans to introduce a range of affordable electric SUVs aimed at the mass segment. The company is focusing on creating accessible, efficient, and locally built EVs to strengthen its foothold in one of the world’s fastest-growing EV markets.

According to reports, Hyundai’s upcoming lineup will include both existing internal combustion engine (ICE) models converted to electric and entirely new EV-dedicated platforms. The strategy begins with the Creta EV, expected to debut by late 2025. This model will be based on the popular Creta SUV platform but adapted for electric performance. It will serve as Hyundai’s first major step toward large-scale EV production in India.

Following the Creta EV, the company plans to launch an all-new compact electric SUV, likely codenamed Inster EV (HE1i), around mid-2026. The Inster EV will be Hyundai’s first model built on a dedicated electric platform designed specifically for compact SUVs. With this vehicle, Hyundai aims to bring EV technology within reach of middle-class buyers by offering competitive pricing and longer driving range.

The automaker is also exploring electric versions of its existing best-sellers such as the Venue and Grand i10 Nios, which could further expand its EV portfolio in the entry and mid-range segments.

Hyundai is placing heavy emphasis on localisation, with plans to manufacture key components like battery packs and electric drivetrains within India. This approach will help reduce production costs and make EVs more affordable for Indian consumers.

Experts believe that Hyundai’s EV roadmap could reshape the country’s electric mobility landscape. With rivals such as Tata Motors and Mahindra already leading in the affordable EV segment, Hyundai’s entry is expected to intensify competition and accelerate EV adoption across the nation.

By combining its global EV expertise with local manufacturing and affordable pricing strategies, Hyundai aims to position itself as a leading player in India’s electric future — one that could make eco-friendly mobility accessible to millions.
