Tata Motors delivered an impressive performance in September 2025, climbing to the second spot in India’s passenger vehicle sales rankings. The automaker recorded robust growth across key segments, driven by festive demand, refreshed variants, and a strong electric portfolio.
Record Monthly and Quarterly Growth
In September 2025, Tata Motors sold 59,667 passenger vehicles, marking a 45% year-on-year (YoY) rise compared to 41,065 units in September 2024. On a month-on-month (MoM) basis, sales jumped 46%, reflecting strong retail momentum ahead of the festive season. The company’s market share rose to 15.8%, up from 11.4% a year ago.
For the third quarter of 2025, Tata reported 1,38,709 units, up 6.3% YoY, led by popular models like the Nexon, Tiago, Altroz, and Harrier.
Nexon Dominates, Harrier’s Comeback Impresses
The Tata Nexon, including its EV variants, emerged as the brand’s best-seller and India’s top-selling passenger vehicle for the month. With 22,571 units, Nexon sales nearly doubled (up 97%) from the same period last year, outpacing rivals like Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Hyundai Creta.
The Punch continued its strong run, clocking 15,891 units, up 16% YoY and 48% MoM, ahead of its upcoming facelift.
One of the biggest success stories was the Harrier, which saw sales soar 161% YoY to 4,181 units, boosted by the new Adventure X Edition and EV variant. The Tiago also registered a remarkable 97% YoY growth, reaching 8,322 units, supported by rising interest in its CNG and EV trims.
Altroz, Safari Stable; Curvv Declines
The Altroz maintained steady growth with 4,168 units sold, up 51% YoY, while the Safari posted 2,000 units, marking 22% YoY growth. However, the newly launched Curvv witnessed a slowdown, falling 67% YoY to 1,566 units, likely due to model transitions. The Tigor closed the month with 966 units, up 8% YoY.
With a diversified lineup and nearly 26% of its sales coming from EVs, Tata Motors continues to strengthen its position as a key player in India’s evolving automotive landscape.
