In a significant step toward sustainable policing, the Himachal Pradesh Police has added the newly launched Tata Curvv EV to its vehicle fleet. This marks one of the first instances of an electric SUV being deployed for police duty in India, signaling a shift from conventional fuel-powered vehicles like the Mahindra Bolero.
The Tata Curvv EV, finished in the official police livery and equipped with strobe lights and sirens, will be used for patrolling and road safety enforcement across hilly terrains. The electric SUV is being seen as an ideal fit for the region’s high-altitude environment, where electric vehicles have an edge over internal combustion engines that often struggle with reduced oxygen levels.
The Curvv EV comes in two variants — one with a 45 kWh battery offering around 430 km of range, and another with a 55 kWh pack capable of delivering up to 502 km on a single charge. The power output ranges between 148 bhp and 165 bhp, while torque stands at 215 Nm.
Inside, the Curvv EV offers a premium and connected experience with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, powered driver seat, automatic climate control, Level-2 ADAS, and a 360-degree camera.
The SUV’s on-road price is estimated between ₹18.40 lakh and ₹23.55 lakh, depending on the variant. With this inclusion, the Himachal Pradesh Police aims to promote eco-friendly mobility while modernizing its vehicle lineup.
This move could inspire other Indian states to adopt electric vehicles for official and law enforcement duties, setting a new standard for sustainable government operations.
