2025 Mahindra Bolero Neo: Rugged Charm Continues, But Misses Modern Safety and Tech Features

Mahindra has refreshed its popular Bolero Neo SUV for 2025 with subtle cosmetic and feature updates, yet the model continues to fall behind competitors in terms of safety, comfort, and technology. Despite its strong road presence and proven reliability, the updated Bolero Neo struggles to match modern expectations in the compact SUV segment.

The 2025 Bolero Neo retains its signature body-on-frame construction and muscular styling, appealing to traditional SUV buyers who value toughness over sophistication. However, while the exterior gets minor design tweaks, Mahindra has opted to retain halogen headlamps instead of introducing full LED lighting — a feature that is now standard in most rivals. The omission of modern illumination makes the SUV look slightly dated, particularly at night.

In terms of power, the Bolero Neo continues with its tried-and-tested 1.5-litre mHawk100 diesel engine producing 100 bhp and 260 Nm of torque, paired with a manual transmission. This setup remains capable, but no automatic variant or new drivetrain option has been introduced.

Safety remains a key concern in the new model. The SUV still offers only dual front airbags and misses essential features such as Electronic Stability Program (ESP), six airbags, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and a 360-degree camera. In a market where safety ratings have become a major buying factor, this omission feels like a major oversight.

On the inside, Mahindra has added new upholstery and an 8.9-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay — though only via a wired connection. Wireless connectivity, a fully digital instrument cluster, and wireless charging are still missing. Comfort features like automatic climate control, rear AC vents, and improved ergonomics are also absent, making the cabin feel dated.

Despite these shortcomings, the Bolero Neo retains its rugged character and dependable mechanicals, ensuring continued appeal among rural and utility-focused buyers. However, in an era of tech-loaded and safety-rich SUVs, Mahindra’s 2025 Bolero Neo feels like a missed opportunity to modernize one of India’s most trusted nameplates.
